California State Capitol Museum Showcases ?Contemporary Native American Art? Exhibit

Visitors to the California State Capitol Museum now have the opportunity to experience a vibrant new exhibit titled ?Contemporary Native American Art? that showcases baskets, jewelry, sculptures and paintings created by various tribal artists that embrace the Native culture and heritage.? In addition to intricate art pieces and hand-crafted artifacts, this special exhibit includes contemporary paintings created by Native artists that serve to tell a story and honor Native tradition.? The ?Contemporary Native American Art? exhibit showcases approximately 20 pieces of Native California art and is the result of a collaborative effort by the California State Capitol Museum, California State Parks, the State Indian Museum, the California Indian Heritage Center, the City of Roseville, and the Maidu Museum & Historic Site.

The exhibit elements are on loan from the Maidu Museum & Historic Site in Roseville that is committed to protecting, preserving and accurately interpreting the rich cultural and natural heritage of the Nisenan Maidu village site, a priceless heritage of California Native people.

The new ?Contemporary Native American Art? exhibit? is currently on display in the Attorney General Exhibit Room on the first floor of the State Capitol through May 17, 2013.?? Offering free admission and open seven days a week, the California State Capitol Museum is home to an extensive collection of important historical California artifacts, artwork, and antique furnishings.
